The summer blockbuster season officially kicked off with the release of Iron Man 3 on Friday, and at the rate the film is performing, it could be the second highest three-day weekend opening ever.

On Friday, Iron Man 3 debuted to a hefty $68.31 million making it the eighth biggest opening day ever. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, Breaking Dawn Part 1 and Part 2, and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse are the only films to do better in that category. | Full Story

The Jackie Robinson biopic made history opening to an estimate $9.1 million on Friday then jumping up to $11.1 million on Saturday. After the three day weekend and all the ticket sales have been tallied, the film will easily make over $27 million. The box office numbers are in and there was an upset!

Olympus Has Fallen, the only action film out this weekend, was a favorite to take the top spot at the box office.  However, Dreamwork’s animated adventure, The Croods pulled an upset to overcome the the live action movie that was stock piled with heavy hitters such as Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman, Erin Eckhart and Angela Bassit.

‘Identity Thief’ Beats ‘Snitch’ For Top Box Office Spot

The Rock, starring in his crime thriller Snitch didn’t prove solid to take over the box office this weekend. Well, actually, it was on top at first but succumb to Universal’s comedy Identity Thief as it regained the top spot.

Identity Thief was propelled back to number one with a $14.1 million bump Saturday. That now brings the films total gross to a hefty $93.7 million in only three weeks. So far, Identity Thief is the highest grossing film of 2013, just beating out Django Unchained. | Full Story

‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’ Leads The Box Office; ‘Django Unchained’ Not Far Behind

The weekend isn’t over yet, but some numbers are in for this weekends box office and Texas Chainsaw 3D was pretty impressive by taking the top spot, beating out Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, which wasn’t too far behind.

Texas Chainsaw 3D earned $23 million over the weekend, that’s well above the $18.5 million the prequel made in 2006. The increase is the result of higher ticket prices and the addition of the very popular R&B singer Trey Songs, who plays Ryan. | Full Story

It’s a long way from the final weekend box office numbers, but box office reports for the two highly publicized Christmas day openers were great.

Les Miserables, debuting in 2,808 theaters, quickly claimed the top spot reflected by Fandango’s and MovieTickets predictions of huge sales online. The film became the #1 advance ticket-seller among all Christmas Day releases, surpassing previous record-holder Sherlock Holmes, in 2009. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 kicked off its opening weekend in over 3,000 theaters, which were obviously packed with long lines because the movie claimed impressive numbers in the box office. While it didn’t set any Twilight records, it still managed to make it on the all time top list.

The Summit Entertainment finale to the adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s supernatural vampire/wolf series, earned an estimated $71.2M from Thursday to Saturday morning. | Full Story

After a month of awful performance in the box office, a well needed boost came from films Hotel Transylvania, Looper and Pitch Perfect.

Hotel Transylvania debuted to an estimated $11 million on Friday, which means it could do over $40 million for the weekend. Sony Pictures’ prediction is a little more conservative at $38 million, however, it turns out that Hotel Transylvania is out to a monster start and is on track to beat the record for all time openings in the month of September. | Full Story

Taking the top box office spot this week is Universal’s The Bourne Legacy, which is no big surprise. The studio expects it to make $42.2 million this weekend, which it’s perfectly on track to make. Two new films hit the market this weekend, Total Recall and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days. One of the movies was supposed to be real competitive with The Dark Knight Rises.
