The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is the most anticipated upcoming film of 2013, according to a poll taken by the movie ticketing service, Fandango.

Fandango  surveyed more than 2,000 movie-lovers last week, asking questions about upcoming films and stars.  The results were compiled into several lists and then released on Tuesday in the 2013 Hot List.

Unsurprising to loyal Hunger Games fans, the sequel Catching Fire tops the chart on most anticipated films, even stumping The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which has a few fans disagreeing. | Full Story

The CW Orders Two New Reality Shows

The CW has ordered two new reality TV shows – one emulating The Hunger Games and the other is a twist on typical dating series. Mark Pedowitz, president of The CW, announced that The Hunt and Perfect Score have been ordered to series.

The Hunt sounds a lot like Survivor meets Hunger Games. Twelve teams of two are thrust into the wilderness with no food, no shelter, and must try to not only survive, but capture the other teams of two. | Full Story

Danny Strong will most likely pen highly anticipated conclusion of the Hunger Games franchise. The final book of the Hunger Games trilogy will be split into two movies, a continuing franchise trend started with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows along with Twilight: Breaking Dawn. Strong is coming off an Emmy win for HBO’s Game Change. He’s also known for HBO’s Recount about the 2000 presidential election. Upcoming writer creds include the latest Dan Brown movie adaption, The Lost Symbol, and Lee Daniel’s drama about a White House employee, The Butler. | Full Story

Lionsgate has opened up a tap of information on their plans for The Hunger Games sequels. The studio has confirmed that Oscar winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman will be joining the cast of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Shortly after, Lionsgate  noted that Mockingjay, the final novel in the Suzanne Collins’ trilogy, will be split into two  separate films titled The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2. | Full Story

The Harry Potter cast was all smiles at this year’s MTV Movie Awards held Sunday night at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.

Actress Helena Bonham Carter may have been absent for the annual celebration, but this didn’t stop the cast of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 from taking home the best cast and best hero awards. | Full Story

Frances Lawrence will be Directing The Hunger Games Sequel Catching Fire

Lionsgate has chosen Francis Lawrence to direct The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire. The search ended with Lawrence (I am Legend) and Bennett Miller the director behind Moneyball. Lawrence will be replacing Gary Ross, who directed the first film that grossed over a half billion dollars globally.

Lawrence was more appealing for the job due to his open schedule. Miller will soon begin work on Foxcatcher, a project he has invested in for several years. | Full Story

The Hunger Games continues to dominate the domestic box office betting out two new openers. Now in its fourth week, The Hunger Games holds on to the top spot making the film’s global cumulative a mind blowing $5oo million.

The Three Stooges underperformed, but still claimed the #2 spot.  Despite this film scoring a B- in CinemaScores, it still hasn’t measured up to other major TV adaptations, such as Get Smart ($38.7 million) or Bewitched ($20 million). | Full Story

It’s another big weekend for Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games.  The film stood strong at # 1 domestically and nearly internationally despite two new big films coming out against it.

Fans seemed not to worry about the Wrath Of The Titans; while it did come in the second spot, the film failed to come close to the original’s grosses.

Mirror Mirror didn’t fair as well as Relativity Media anticipated. Despite the B+ CinemaScore, critics gave it a mild score. | Full Story

Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games banked a major $155 million this weekend, making this the biggest success ever for the independent film company. The film was projected to be number one in every market globally. In North America the movie began with $68 million on Friday, then $51 million on Saturday, and finishing off Sunday with a decent $36 million.

This makes The Hunger Games the 3rd highest grossing three-day weekend opening in history, following The Dark Knight ($158 million) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. | Full Story

The Hunger Games takes a commanding lead in the box office shattering multiple records for Lionsgate. Based on Suzanne Collins popular teen sci-fi novels The Hunger Games opened at midnight on Friday morning to a record setting $19.7 million. With that one day of box office profit, The Hunger Games is Lionsgate’s sixth highest grossing film in the history of the company.
