Michael K. Williams Joins Steve McQueen's Twelve Years Slave

Production is underway for Steve McQueen’s Twelve Years Slave as shooting  continues in New Orleans over the past few weeks. McQueen has enlisted an A-list cast that he can trust to deliver the intensity for this high drama slavery biopic and continues to do so with his latest addition to the cast.

Michael K. Williams aka Omar from The Wire aka Chalky White from Boardwalk Empire has joined the cast. There’s not much on his character at this point, but Williams will be playing a mutinous slave named Robert. | Full Story

Paul Dano Books Role In Steve McQueen Twelve Years A Slave

Paul Dano has booked a role on Steve McQueen’s upcoming Twelve Years A Slave. He’ll star Opposite Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Twelve Years A Slave is based on Solomon Northup’s 1853 autobiography about a free black man from Washington DC. The man was promised a job playing the violin in circus and tricked and dragged to Louisiana to be sold into slavery. There he stayed for 12 years picking cotton until he was rescued. | Full Story

Oscar nominations have been made, and it appears the Academy overlooked Michael Fassbender for a nomination for best actor. For the fans that place Fassbender on the same tier as George Clooney and Brad Pitt, this was a shameful disappointment.

Steve McQueen, the director of Shame, strongly believes the British actor’s performance was ignored by the Academy because of Oscar voters’ biases about sex. The acclaimed director exclaimed:

“In America they’re too scared of sex, that’s why he wasn’t nominated, If you look at the best actor list you’re saying ‘Michael Fassbender is not on that list?’ It’s kind of crazy. | Full Story

Now, the film has been gaining a lot of interest owing to the fact that Hollywood heartthrob Brad Pitt is slated to play the central character in the movie.
