There’s one thing Spike Lee definitely won’t be doing during the Holidays this year — eating popcorn while indulging in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained film, which opens in theaters on Christmas day.

The Do the Right Thing director says he’s boycotting the new movie because he believes it’s the wrong thing for his ancestors.

Spike Lee is in negotiations with Nate Parker to be the latest addition to his upcoming remake of Chan-Wook Park’s Oldboy, according to The Playlist.

Michael Jackson will never die — at least not in spirit. Spike Lee did his part to to keep the pop legend alive with his Bad 25 documentary, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival 25 years to the day after Jackson released his chart-topping album.

Lee was commissioned by Sony and Epic records to make the documentary, which he calls “a love letter” to Jackson. The director featured interviews not only with the same old familiar faces, but also a slew of unknown collaborators who worked in the trenches on the album. | Full Story

Spike Lee’s documentary Bad 25, has been picked up by ABC for a Thanksgiving broadcast date. The film features the late-great Michael Jackson, and the making of his classic album, Bad.

Bad 25 is a collaboration between the long-time director in cooperation with Jackson’s estate and Legacy/Epic Records. The film includes never-before-seen footage of Jackson as he toured to support the “Bad” album, along with his studio sessions recording. | Full Story

Samuel L Jackson Signs On For Spike Lee’s ‘Oldboy’ Remake

Samuel L Jackson has joined the cast of the film Oldboy, which is a revenge thriller slated to be directed by Spike Lee.

According to Empire, ‘Oldboy finds Josh Brolin as Joe Douchett, a man held captive in a nondescript room for 15 years, seemingly without cause. When his captor (Sharlto Copley) lets him go, and offers him a few details on what happened and who is responsible, he sets off on a mission to exact vengeance from those who caused him such pain.’

‘Red Hook Summer’ Executives Pleased With The Opening Weekend

Spike Lee’s Brooklyn project Red Hook Summer, which was shown in four locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn, averaged about $10,525 per theater. The film took a different route than other specialty movies, opening on four screens instead of the “safer route” of two locations.

“We’re very excited, and think this is a great start to the show,” Variance Films head Dylan Marchetti said. “As Spike often says, ‘no shenanigans’ – so rather than play the per-screen average game and open only two theaters, we made sure the film was available to its audience in Harlem and of course, the Republic of Brooklyn right on the break, and the reaction from the crowds showed it was clearly worth it.”

Red Hook Summer is centered around a young boy who migrates from Atlanta, Georgia to Brooklyn, New York to spend the summer with his grandfather. | Full Story
