News just broke that Liza Minnelli will guest star on NBC’s hit musical drama Smash.
Minnelli is scripted to sing an original song with Tom Levitt (Christian Borle), written by Smash composer and lyricists Marc Shainman and Scott Wittman.
NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt, a die hard Minnelli fan, expressed his joy with the famed singer signing on:

Jennifer Hudson is the latest recruit to sign on to the cast of NBC’s musical drama series, Smash.
The Oscar winning actress is set to appear in a multi-episode arc in Season 2 of the show.

According to sources, Smash creator Theresa Rebeck is stepping away from her duties as showrunner. Moments after the Broadway musical show was confirmed for a second season, the executive producer backed away from her daily duties.
