History Miniseries ‘Hatfields & McCoys’ Ends With Record Ratings

The Hatfields and McCoys had a family feud that proved to be great for TV and the the History channel.

The miniseries about the two warring families shattered basic cable ratings records, according to Nielsen Company figures that History released Thursday. After three nights of clan clashing, Hatfields & McCoys reigned supreme as the top-rated entertainment telecast ever for ad-supported basic cable.

Parts one and two of the post civil war drama were at the top of the ratings charts with 13.9 million and 13.1 million viewers, respectively. | Full Story

Hatfields and McCoys weren’t the only things being shot down last night on the History channel. Records were falling like clay targets at a shooting range when History’s three-part miniseries Hatfields & McCoys broke almost all of them with its first installment on Monday night.

Phillip Phillips has been crowned the winner for American Idol Season 11, after fans sent in a record breaking 132 million votes, according to Ryan Seacrest. On the other hand, his defeat of Jessica Sanchez is marked with the lowest ratings for an Idol finale ever.

The singing competition show that steadily maintained astronomical TV ratings fell to an all-time low on Wednesday night.  However, what is considered “low” is all relative when it comes to American Idol. | Full Story

Shock jock Howard Stern was unable to electrify ratings for America’s Got Talent on Monday night, allowing for Dancing With The Stars to continue its reign on top.

Even though Stern was featured in Monday’s season 7 premiere, America’s Got Talent only managed to pull in 10.3 million viewers and scored a 3.6 in the adults 18-to-49 demographic.  This was quite a slip from the 4.2 it earned last year.  Broadway drama Smash closed out its first season with 6 million viewers and a 1.8,  which was close to its last week’s numbers. | Full Story

‘Undercover Boss’, Whitney Houston ’20/20′ Gets CBS, ABC Friday Night Top Ratings

“Undercover Boss” has helped boost CBS’ Friday night ratings, after delivering the network’s best numbers in a long time. However, despite CBS’ strong performance, the channel had to settle for a Friday night split with ABC for the top spot, as the “20/20″ special dedicated to the late Whitney Houston dominated the night among young viewers.
