Why Daniel Day Lewis Didn’t Deserve To Win Best Actor For ‘Lincoln’

Day Lewis

With the Oscars wrapping up a few days ago, it’s hard not to reflect over the nominees, winners and how somethings didn’t seem to add up. Ben Affleck isn’t nominated for Best Director, but Argo wins Best Picture.  I guess they loved everything about the film,  just not necessarily the directing. Sounds crazy, right?

This year, the category of best actor caught my attention and sent an alarm through my film geek nervous system. | Full Story

The 2013 Academy Awards Won’t End With Best Picture

kristin-seth

This 85th annual Academy Awards show is proving to be anything but traditional. Usually mere moments after the Best Picture award is doled out, the credits begin to roll and the audience is left to mull over another year of  moderately surprising Oscar awards. With first time host Seth MacFarlane, things are going to be very, very different this year.

Oscar producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron have added yet another star studded musical performance to this year’s telecast. | Full Story

barbra_streisand

Just when you thought this years Academy Awards couldn’t get any more musically explosive, producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron book the one and only, Barbara Streisand.

Jennifer Lawrence Lampoons Fellow Oscar Nominees

Jennifer Lawrence on SNL

Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence may be dangerous with the bow, but the award winning actress can also do damage when it comes to clowning Oscar nominees.

It all began when Lawrence said “I beat Meryl” while accepting her Golden Globe award. Some thought that she disrespected Meryl Streep by taking an unnecessary shot at the veteran actress.  However, the Silver Lining Playbook star clarified her statement on SNL, reminding the audience she got the line from the movie, The First Wife Club. | Full Story

Submissions are in for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar

amour

Much like Christmas, rumblings over the Oscars seem to be starting earlier every year. Entertainment Weekly reports that the submissions are officially in for the Best Foreign Language Film category. I don’t really care much about the Oscars, and this particular award illustrates a lot of the reasons I have for that. Nothing about the category’s rules make much sense. Why must a film be submitted for consideration by a country, and why only one film per country? | Full Story

Last year, A Separation became the first Iranian film to win the Oscar for Best Foreign Language feature. But this year, Variety reports, the country will not be submitting a film for consideration for the award (the question of whether it makes any sense at all that this is the way movies are put in the running for the award is an entirely separate matter).

Iranian culture minister Muhammad Hosseini explained the boycott as a response to “an intolerable insult to the Prophet of Islam,” referring to the now-infamous trailer for the anti-Islam film Innocence of Muslims. | Full Story
