Frutivale is a film which has been getting plenty of buzz lately. A few days ago the movie won multiple accolades after debuting at the Sundance Film Festival. Prior to that, it had five major Hollywood distributing companies fighting for its rights. Now, there has been footage released of the movie, to showcase part of why everyone went so crazy over the film at the festival.

‘Fruitvale’ Takes Cake At Sundance Film Festival

Last night, the Sundance Film Festival wrapped up its 2013 event with the annual awards ceremony. Many films were able to take home accolades, other didn’t, but it still was a successful event nevertheless. Ryan Coogler‘s Fruitvale, actual made history at the function, winning two prestigious awards in its category.

According to reports, Fruitvale captured the audience emotions to the point where some were seen weeping uncontrollably. That ultimately fueled the viewers to select the film for the 2013 Audience Award in the US Dramatic. | Full Story

Weinstein Company Pays A Grip For Forest Whitaker’s ‘Fruitvale’ Film

At Sundance Film Festival, The Weinstein Company, Fox Searchlight, Paramount Pictures and Focus Features went into a bidding war over the controversy film Fruitvale. After all the nukes were dropped and the smoke cleared The Weinstein Company was the only organization to survive the intense battle. According to the Variety, The Weinstein Company won the auction war for the film by reportedly dropping a bomb worth between two to three million dollars, including commitments to a wide theatrical release. | Full Story

Jennifer Hudson, Octavia Spencer To Star In Lifetime’s ‘Five 2′

Jennifer Hudson and Octavia Spencer signed on to star in the Lifetime anthology movie Five 2. The two have join the cast which include Melissa Leo and Sarah Hyland.

Five 2 chronicles the lives of various characters dealing with breast cancer. Like its first breast cancer-themed installment, Five 2 will consist of five short films featuring great talent both in front and behind the camera. The sequel will also tackle mental illness. | Full Story

It looks as though Baggage Claim is shaping up a pretty decent cast and may be the next urban classic to hit the theaters.

Playwright/director David E. Talbert’s has recently extended invitations to Taye Diggs, Morris Chestnut, Trey Songz, Lauren London, Tia Mowry and Djimon Hounsou to join his upcoming Baggage Claim comedy.

Baggage Claim, which already has Paula Patton, Derek Luke, and Octavia Spencer on board, will see Patton star as Montana Moore, a 35 year old unmarried flight attendant who is on a mission. | Full Story

Fox Searchlight has just added Academy Award winning actress Octavia Spencer to the cast of David Talbert’s Baggage Claim. The cast includes Paula Patton, Taraji P. Henson, Idris Elba, Montana Moore, William Wright and Derek Luke.

Patton will lead the cast as a flight attendant who is the oldest unmarried sibling in her family, so she embarks on a journey to find a groom before her sister gets hitched. The studio havent release any details about which role Spencer will play. | Full Story

Octavia Spencer And Michael B. Jordan To Star In Trayvon Martin Like Film 'Fruitvale'

Michael B. Jordan is now being considered for Forest Whitaker’s independent film about a man shot and killed by Bay Area police in 2009.

Fruitvale tells the story of Oscar Grant, a 22 year old black man that was detained on New Year’s Day  of 2009 by police officers at the Fruitvale station, and then murdered with a gun shot wound to the back. The event was captured on many cell phone cameras and despite video evidence the ‘not guilty’ verdict caused protests and riots. | Full Story
