There was just too much Jamie Foxx in Django Unchained for China.

Authorities have reportedly shut down screenings of Quentin Tarantino’s bloody spaghetti western one minute into its debut, even after a major marketing campaign and several edits by the filmmakers to tone down the bloodshed.

“‘Django’ screenings have been postponed and we can’t guarantee when they will be resumed,” said a spokesperson for Beijing’s Sanlitun Megabox theater.

The weekend isn’t over yet, but some numbers are in for this weekends box office and Texas Chainsaw 3D was pretty impressive by taking the top spot, beating out Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, which wasn’t too far behind.

Texas Chainsaw 3D earned $23 million over the weekend, that’s well above the $18.5 million the prequel made in 2006. The increase is the result of higher ticket prices and the addition of the very popular R&B singer Trey Songs, who plays Ryan. | Full Story

Spike Lee has managed to start controversy yet again… This time it’s not with one of his political movies, it’s with his recent comments about Quentin Tarantino’s slave film Django Unchained. The directors’ statement hasn’t warranted a response from Tarantino as of yet, but Training Day director Antoine Fuqua has stepped in to defend the Django Unchained director.

Last week, Lee publicly criticized Tarantino on Twitter saying he refused to see Django Unchained because, “American Slavery Was Not A Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western.” Lee also called Tarantino “disrespectful” to his ancestors and says “there is something wrong with” him for his overuse of “the n-word” in his films. | Full Story
