The previous movie in the series, Live Free or Die Hard, managed to gross $33,369,559 on its opening weekend back in 2007. Brad Pitt’s Killing Them Softly had a soft opening nationwide this past weekend, earning a reserved F CinemaScore with viewers and landing at number seven on the box office chart. The film becomes only the eighth movie ever to receive the rare failing grade. Wow! Even though the film cost only $15 million to make, it opened to a mediocre $7 million, which is considered a disappointing number.

Cloud Atlas is undeniably one of the weirdest movies ever to be handed a hundred million budget. The Wachowski siblings / Tom Tykwer collaboration explores themes of fate, love, and human nature through six interweaving storylines that feature the same actors in different roles, sometimes playing different sexes or races. Things are heating up in the race to top the box office this weekend. Prometheus was able to edge out Dreamworks’ animation Madagascar 3 after all the sales were in this morning. Both movies are in a very strong position to hit that $50 million mark in the three day time period.
