Well folks, here’s Meryl Streep’s Oscar nomination for next year. August: Osage County will continue the grand prestige picture tradition of bringing together a group of distinguished white people to affect Southern drawls and yell at each other.

And what a group of distinguished white people! I won’t bother to restate the list of names that you can see on the film’s poster. Although I will draw attention to one name in particular: Benedict Cumberbatch. | Full Story

One Last Trailer for ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’

star_trek_into_darkness_poster_enterprise

Well, here is your Star Trek. Looks like it’s goin’ into darkness.

Seriously, just the worst title.

Anyhoo, this new trailer for the movie shows off some new stuff. For instance we now know that Benedict Khanberbatch has a giant-ass spaceship at his disposal. I assume it’s a stealth ship, because it’s painted black and made of angles and holy cow that’s so dumb I can’t even begin to articulate. | Full Story

International Trailer and Poster for ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’

Star-Trek-Into-Darkness-Poster

After a goodly amount of teasing and withholding, there’s finally a full-length trailer for the new Star Trek movie. Of course, it’s still mostly teasing and withholding, but now there’s something resembling the outline of a plot in it.

It seems that Benedict Cumberbatch’s character kills a bunch of top officials, because authority figures are always useless in movie land. We can only ever trust the hotshot, doesn’t-play-by-the-rules maverick outlaw to save the day, and Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) is more than willing to be the hottest shot possible, and goes rogue to chase down the villain. | Full Story

New Teaser for ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’

There’s still no full trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness, even though the movie is about two months away from release. Instead, we’ve got another teaser, which has allowed a few more tiny plot details and new images to escape from J.J. Abram’s ever-tight lips.

This teaser introduces some more lightheartedness into the pervasive grimness that’s been seen in most of the promo material up until now. There’s still Benedict Cumberbatch being ominous and buildings blowing up, but there’s also Captain Kirk being wacky, Spock being dry, and Bones screaming about hating adventuring. | Full Story

First Look at the Next Two ‘Hobbit’ Movies

hobbit-desolation-smaug

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hasn’t even hit theaters yet, but EW already has the first promotional images from the next two films in this completely unnecessary trilogy.

The first image, seen above, is from The Desolation of Smaug, which will be in theaters on December 13th of next year. Main character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) is chillin’ on a heap of gold, and given the timid look on his face, I’d figure that this is from the scene where he infiltrates the lair of the dragon, Smaug (Who is voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch). | Full Story

‘The Hobbit’ TV Spot Reveals Smaug.. Barely

Hobbit Woo

With The Hobbit‘s release date so near, it’s no wonder why the team handling promotion is pulling out all the stops for the upcoming film. In its’ latest TV spot, glimpses of the film’s notorious antagonist, Smaug, have been fleetingly revealed.

We say fleeting because the villain’s appearance only lasts about one second. He appears – in all his dragon hood glory – at about the six second mark as a nightmarish shade flying over an ancient city. | Full Story

THR has the scoop. There’s going to be a movie following the life of Brian Epstein, the man who made The Beatles what they were. As their manager, Epstein ushered the legendary band through their golden age, but he was plagued by personal problems, including drug addiction and closeted homosexuality, and ultimately died of an overdose in 1967, at age 32. John Lennon called him “the fifth Beatle.”

Tom Hanks is one of the producers of the now in-development film, which has Paul McGuigan attached as director and Todd Graff as screenwriter. | Full Story
