The teaser, which is due on Wednesday, arrives just in time for the celebration of ‘Tolkien Week’, a weeklong observance of the fantasy novel’s 75th anniversary. Peter Jackson also promises some “special content” for die-hard fans in the upcoming week, including “something special” to celebrate the joint birthdays of Bilbo and Frodo on September 26.
Jackson will be hard pressed for fan participation following his announcement of making The Hobbit a trilogy earlier this month. The first installment will be released on December 14 with The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug following up in December 2013. The final portion, The Hobbit: There and Back Again wraps up the franchise in July of 2014.
“We were really pleased with the way the story was coming together, in particular, the strength of the characters and the cast who have brought them to life,” Peter Jackson has said. “All of which gave rise to a simple question: Do we take this chance to tell more of the tale? And the answer from our perspective as the filmmakers, and as fans, was an unreserved ‘yes.’”
Peter Jackson released the announcement of the new teaser via Facebook. We’ll be sure to post the teaser as soon as it releases.
