Nicolas Cage and Emma Stone in the First Official Trailer for ‘The Croods’

DreamWorks Animation always finds room for stars in their animated features, and their latest offering is no exception. Today, the studio released the first official trailer for The Croods, an animated adventure starring Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, and Ryan Reynolds. The new movie is directed by Kirk DeMicco and Chris Sanders, the Academy Award-nominated duo behind Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon.

The official plot synopsis states that “when their cave is destroyed, the Crood family is forced to embark on an adventure into a pre-historic world in search of a new home.” This differs slightly from the initial plot summary that was reported when the casting of Cage and Reynolds was announced in 2010. According to those early reports, the story will also feature Cage’s cautious patriarch butting heads with the nomadic and risk-taking caveman played by Reynolds. The trailer, on the other hand, doesn’t feature Reynolds’ character at all, and suggests that the film will center on Stone’s character as a headstrong, crusading heroine. Kathrine Keener, Clark Duke, and Cloris Leachman round out the rest of the cast.

The film will appear in 3D and conventional theaters on March 22, 2013.  Check out the trailer for The Croods below…
