Michael K. Williams Joins Steve McQueen’s ‘Twelve Years Slave’

Production is underway for Steve McQueen’s Twelve Years Slave as shooting  continues in New Orleans over the past few weeks. McQueen has enlisted an A-list cast that he can trust to deliver the intensity for this high drama slavery biopic and continues to do so with his latest addition to the cast.

Michael K. Williams aka Omar from The Wire aka Chalky White from Boardwalk Empire has joined the cast. There’s not much on his character at this point, but Williams will be playing a mutinous slave named Robert.

The actor joins cast members Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Paul Giamatti and Chiwetel Ejiofor for the New Regency adaptation of Solomon Northup’s 1853 book about a free black man from the north that was tricked back into slavery in the south.

River Road and Plan B studios are producing the film. As mentioned before production already has begun shooting with a 2013 release.
