Megan Hilty is proud to be a plus size woman and takes a stance in favor of normal sized women on television.
Hilty stars on NBC’s new TV drama, Smash. She plays Ivy, a Broadway actress and singer who has been around the block, but has been waiting for her breakout role. In the show-within-the-show drama, she sets her sights on the part of Marilyn Monroe.
On Access Hollywood Live, Hilty said: “I’m just not normally what you see on television, which is something that I really appreciate about what NBC’s done in casting me. I’m very, very thankful that they’re casting people with normal figures.”
When asked about getting into the Marilyn role, Hilty said the curves in her costume are all hers.
“There is no padding, that’s what you get for casting someone with a real body on TV. No padding involved, but the wig kind of makes Marilyn, I think. I really felt it once the hair was right.”
In this featured preview of Smash watch Megan Hilty turn into Marilyn Monroe before your eyes as she performs an original Monroe song.
Smash airs Mondays at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
