Lily Tomlin gets Malibu Country role!
Lily Tomlin has booked a lead role in ABC’s half-hour pilot Malibu Country. This will be Tomlin’s first series regular gig since Murphy Brown.
The story centers around Reba Gallagher (Reba McEntire), who has a rock star husband that cheats on her and burns through most of their money. In result, she divorces him and moves her family from Nashville to the only asset she has left — a little house in Malibu. There she’ll try to reignite her own singing career and keep her family from being corrupted by the materialistic and rarefied Malibu world she now calls home.
Emmy award-winning and Oscar-nominated Tomlin plays Shirley, Reba’s classically Southern warm and funny mother, who joins the family in their move from Nashville to Malibu.
The actress has worked on two recurring roles since Murphy Brown, she appeared on ABC’s dramedy Desperate Housewives and NBC’s drama The West Wing. Lily Tomlin most recently recurred on DirecTV’s Damages and Lisa Kudrow’s online/Showtime series Web Therapy.
