Now that the singer Ashanti’s music career has dried up, she has dove back into the acting pool to get wet again. For the past few years, the R&B star has been auditioning for numerous acting roles and now she finally lucked up. Ashanti has recently booked a part on Lifetime’s Army Wives, as a series regular.

Country musics favorite songstress, Carrie Underwood is taking on her first big acting role as the singing nun turned nanny, Maria Von Trapp, in a TV version of “The Sound of Music.” No, this isn’t a Country Western remake of the iconic 1965 Austria based film, but it’s a live musical performance adaption based on the Broadway musical version.

Hailee Steinfeld has been cast opposite Kevin Costner in an untitled new thriller. Deadline.com also reports that McG, known for Charlie’s Angels and This Means War has signed on to direct for EuropaCorp and Relativaty Media.

Kevin Costner plays a service agent who finds out he’s dying. He tries some experimental drugs which could prolong his dwindling life span, however suffers from hallucenitory side effects. He decides to go on one last mission before he dies and reunite with his estranged daughter, played by Steinfeld. The plot of this untitled thriller sounds interesting enough, I’m intrigued to hear more details as the movie production goes underway. | Full Story

The best film trilogy of modern times isn’t The Lord of the Rings. It’s South Korean director Park Chan-wook’s Vengeance Trilogy. These three movies, while not connected by story, share a few actors and the theme of bloody, horrifying revenge. They are each their own kind of masterpiece, and, as always with foreign hits, American remakes of all of them have been in the works for a few years now. The most well-known of these remakes is the Spike Lee-directed, Josh Brolin-starring Oldboy, which recently wrapped filming. Oldboy is widely considered the best of the Trilogy, but Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, released in the US as Lady Vengeance, deserves attention. | Full Story

The title acronym refers to the highly classified organization Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.

Completely unsurprising (there’s a live-action movie starring Sleeping Beauty antagonist Maleficent coming down the pipe as well), but I was unaware of this.
