Star Trek: Into Darkness, J.J. Abrams sci-fi sequel, soared above Iron Man 3 to take the top spot at this weekend’s box office, with $70.6 million in earnings.

Though the film managed to rake in an impressive haul, it fell short of the expected $90 million projection despite being reinforced with several showings at IMAX 3-D theaters.  Abrams’ first Star Trek movie opened in early May of 2009 with an impressive $75.2 million on its first weekend without the benefit of 3-D surcharges.

On the other hand, the Star Trek sequel did demote Ironman 3 to second place with $35.2 million. But Robert Downy Jr’s super-hero has nothing to worry about since its three week reign ended with over a billion in worldwide earnings.

Coming in third place is Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby with a $23.4 million weekend, bringing its domestic total to an estimated $90.2 million. Leonardo DiCaprio helped the Australian director prove other kinds of movies can compete and succeed in the age of comic book films.

Meanwhile, Pain & Gain and The Croods followed in the fourth and fifth spots with $3.1 million and $2.8 million respectively.

Written by David S. Goyer, the series follows the “untold” story of Leonardo Da Vinci: the genius during his early years in Renaissance Florence. As a 25-year old artist, inventor, swordsman, lover, dreamer and idealist, he struggles to live within the confines of his own reality and time as he begins to not only see the future, but invent it.

Da Vinci’s Demons is about Leonardo da Vinci’s early life, scheduled to premiere on Starz networks. The series marks the first collaborative effort between Starz and BBC Worldwide under a new co-production agreement formed after the production of Torchwood: Miracle Day. Described as an historical fantasy, the series mythology is also rumored to involve the mystery cult known as the Sons of Mithras. Eight episodes of the series have been ordered by Starz, with the series premiering on April 12, 2013.

In season one, the series, featuring action star Maggie Q as the lead, showed Nikita wage a war against Division, the agency that created her. In result, Michael, the trusted man who trained her, ending up being the one forced to hunt her down. She had an ace up her sleeve: Alex, a girl she trained to infiltrate this secret unit of the government. At the end of season one, Nikita and Alex’s relationship had been shattered, and Nikita and Michael’s relationship was restored. Now, Nikita and Michael are on the run with a hard drive containing the government’s darkest secrets and conspiracies. Together, they are going to right the wrongs that Division has committed over the years, one mission at a time. But leading the hunt for them this time is Alex… and she knows all of Nikita’s tricks.

The first full length Riddick trailer has made its way online, and from the looks of things, the upcoming film may be filled with even more badass Vin Diesel and strange dangerous creatures than the first installment, Pitch Black.

Aside from Vin Diesel, Riddick stars Katee Sackhoff, Dave Bautista, Jordi Mollà, Matt Nable, Bokeem Woodbine, Raoul Trujillo, and Nolan Gerard Funk.

Judging from the trailer, writer/director David Twohy returned to the original themes featured in Pitch Black, abandoned those introduced in the interplanetary debacle known as Chronicles of Riddick. For instance, the army of Necromongers, which Riddick unintentionally picked up in the previous installment, are nowhere in sight.

Instead we see our antihero is left for dead on a harsh overheated and desolate planet. As usual a small army of bounty hunters are looking to cash in on his head. But Riddick is not going easily and those creepy looking alien creatures are not making his extraction a cake walk either. So of course a battle for survival ensues, but we’ll have to wait until September 6 to see who survives.

On tonight’s episode of the new NBC series Hannibal, the BAU investigates a murder in which the killer exposes the victim’s vocal cords to literally play them like a cello. Meanwhile, Hannibal discovers that the killer, Tobias, murdered the victim as an attempt to gain Hannibal’s attention but then makes an attempt to take Lecter’s life. Will is driven to distraction by strange noises in his head and turns to Alana, in a romantic way, seeking peace and stability. Hannibal describes his relationship with Will to his therapist, Dr. Bedilia Du Maurier.

The series revolves around Will Graham (Hugh Dancy, “The Big C”), who is a gifted criminal profiler who is on the hunt for a serial killer with the FBI. Graham’s unique way of thinking gives him the astonishing ability to empathize with anyone — even psychopaths. He seems to know what makes them tick. But when the mind of the twisted killer he’s pursuing is too complicated for even Will to comprehend, he enlists the help of Dr. Lecter, one of the premier psychiatric minds in the country. Armed with the uncanny expertise of the brilliant doctor, Will and Hannibal (known as a serial killer only to the audience) form a brilliant partnership and it seems there’s no villain they can’t catch. If Will only knew…

On tonight’s The Office season 9, episode 25, “Finale,” months after the airing of the documentary, the workers of Dunder Mifflin, past and present, gather for a wedding and a final round of interviews. Mysteries are solved, hatchets are buried, pranks are prunked.

The Office is a fly-on-the-wall “docu-reality” parody about modern American office life. “The Office” delves into the lives of the workers at Dunder Mifflin paper supply company in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Regional manager Michael Scott (Steve Carell) is a single, middle-aged man who is the boastful tour guide for the documentary. With unshaken enthusiasm, Michael believes he is the office funnyman, a fountain of business wisdom and his employees’ cool friend. He has no clue that his employees tolerate his inappropriate behavior only because he signs their paychecks. Painstakingly trying to be liked and to look cool, Michael comes off alternately absurd and pathetic. His prize possession is his “World’s Greatest Boss” mug — which he had to buy for himself.

On tonight’s ABC TV series Scandal, with the identity of the mole now closer than ever, Olivia and her team are in very real danger. Meanwhile, the latest White House scandal pushes Cyrus to his limits, on the season finale of Scandal.

Scandal is based around Olivia Pope, who has dedicated her life to protecting and defending the public images of the nation’s elite and keeping those secrets under wraps. Revered and feared at the same time, Olivia, a former communications director to the President of the United States, left the White House to open her own prominent crisis management firm. She is hoping to start a new chapter in her life — both professionally and personally — but she can’t seem to completely cut ties with her past Scandal. Slowly it becomes apparent that her dysfunctional staff, who specialize in fixing other people’s lives, can’t quite fix the ones closest at hand-their own.

Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo), along with interns Cristina Yang, Izzie Stevens, George O’Malley and Alex Karev’s, medical world revolved around textbooks and professors yesterday, but today they are experiencing medicine first-hand as surgical interns at Seattle Grace Hospital, a teaching hospital with one of the toughest residency programs in the nation. Here, they must learn to balance their personal lives with their highly competitive professional lives, all while dealing with the daily stress of life and death situations. Together they’re discovering that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and white. Real life only comes in shades of grey.

On this week’s episode of CW’s Beauty and the Beast “Never Turn Back,” when secrets about Cat’s family are revealed, it will change everything Cat knew about her past. Vincent finds himself staring his demise in the face, while Gabe takes drastic measures to get some answers.

Beauty and the Beast revolves Catherine Chandler (Kristin Kreuk, “Smallville”, “Chuck”) who is a smart, no-nonsense homicide detective, who is haunted by her own tragic past. When she was a teenager, Cat witnessed the murder of her mother at the hands of two gunmen. Cat would have been killed too, but someone – or something – saved her. No one has ever believed her, but she knows it wasn’t an animal that attacked the assassins…though it was strange and terrifying, it was human.

Years have passed, and although she thinks about her mother every day, Cat is now strong and confident, a capable police detective working with her equally talented partner, Tess Vargas (Nina Lisandrello, “Nurse Jackie”). The two women make a good team, and have become close friends while working on countless homicide cases.

While investigating a new case Cat and Tess discover fingerprints that lead to a handsome doctor named Vincent Keller (Jay Ryan, “Terra Nova”), who was reportedly killed by enemy fire while serving in Afghanistan in 2002. Digging deeper, Cat learns that Vincent is actually still alive. For mysterious reasons that have forced him to live outside of traditional society, Vincent has been in hiding for the past 10 years. With the help of his childhood friend J.T. Forbes (Austin Basis, “Life Unexpected”), Vincent has been able to guard his terrible secret – when he is enraged, he becomes a terrifying beast, unable to control his super-strength and heightened senses. Cat is stunned when Vincent admits he was the “animal” who saved her the night of her mother’s murder. Vincent doesn’t admit the whole truth – he is emotionally tied to Cat and has been watching over her for years.

On this week’s Elementary episode 23, “The Woman and Heroine,” as Sherlock reels at the reappearance of his former lover, Irene Adler, a series of flashbacks unravel the tumultuous events that led to his downfall into addiction.

Elementary stars Jonny Lee Miller as detective Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson in a modern-day drama about a crime-solving duo that cracks the NYPD’s most impossible cases. Following his fall from grace in London and a stint in rehab, eccentric Sherlock escapes to Manhattan where his wealthy father forces him to live with his worst nightmare – a sober companion, Dr. Watson. A successful surgeon until she lost a patient and her license three years ago, Watson views her current job as another opportunity to help people, as well as paying a penance.
However, the restless Sherlock is nothing like her previous clients. He informs her that none of her expertise as an addiction specialist applies to him and he’s devised his own post-rehab regimen – resuming his work as a police consultant in New York City.

Watson has no choice but to accompany her irascible new charge on his jobs. But Sherlock finds her medical background helpful, and Watson realizes she has a knack for playing investigator. Sherlock’s police contact, Capt. Tobias “Toby” Gregson, knows from previous experience working with Scotland Yard that Sherlock is brilliant at closing cases, and welcomes him as part of the team. With the mischievous Sherlock Holmes now running free in New York solving crime, it’s simple deduction that he’s going to need someone to keep him grounded, and it’s elementary that it’s a job for Watson.
