Hendrick’s will play Charlotte Douglas, an American mother in search of her 19-year old fugitive daughter, Marin. Charlotte travels to the fictional country of Boca Grande in Central America in hopes of finding Marin, however is thrust into a country on the brink of revolution. The novel is written from the perspective of Grace Strasser-Mendana, a young American ex-pat, anthropologist who observes Charlotte’s struggle. No news yet on who will be cast as Grace, or even what role she’ll play in the upcoming movie.
Campbell Scott (Off the Map, Company Retreat) is on board to direct, while Marcia Weiss will produce. As reported originally to Variety, ‘We are thrilled that Christina has agreed to come on board to play the lead role of Charlotte Douglas,” Scott and Weiss said. “Charlotte is a complex and compelling character and Christina is the perfect actor to play her.
With her performance as Joan Holloway-Harris in Mad Men, the lovely Hendricks is certainly adept to play a complex and compelling character. Plus it’s guaranteed she’ll be utterly gorgeous – no matter what role she plays. Casting her in A Book of Common Prayer is most definitely a slam dunk.
