Ashley Tisdale has been tapped to play in the spoof horror movie Scary Movie 5.
Yesterday, June 4th, the Weinstein Company announced that the former Disney star has been picked to play one of the lead roles in the fifth installment of the Scary Movie franchise.
Tisdale is best known for her hit role as Sharpay Evans in the Emmy Award-winning High School Musical franchise. The first two shows eclipsed cable television records and as a result, Walt Disney Pictures released the third project as a feature film. High School Musical 3: Senior Year went on to set a box office record as the highest grossing opening weekend for a musical.
Scary Movie 5 will be directed by Malcolm Lee, and David Zucker is co-writing and producing. Zucker wrote and directed the third and fourth installments of the film.
The Scary Movie franchise has grossed over $800 million worldwide. The film is projected to hit theaters across the U.S. on January 11, 2013.
