A Marcus Garvey biopic is currently in development stage. According to Shadow and Act, Don Cheadle’s Crescendo Productions is producing the film, which will portray the Jamaican native and Black Nationalist Marcus Garvey.
Kevin Navayne, who is fairly new to the acting world, is slated to play Garvey.
Navayne, also a native of Jamaica, spent numerous years as a fashion model. In the past, he has played on One Life To Live. Recently though, he was scheduled to co-star in Spike Lee’s Da Brick, which HBO decided to pass on at the last second.
Marcus Mosiah Garvey was a Jamaican publisher, journalist, entrepreneur, and orator who was a staunch proponent of the Black Nationalism and Pan-Africanism movements, to which end he founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL). He founded the Black Star Line, part of the Back-to-Africa movement, which promoted the return of the African Diaspora to their ancestral lands(Wiki).
George Tillman Jr. (Notorious; Barber Shop) is slated to direct and Sonni Kojo will write the script.
